Polariscope

Looking for a tool that will help you in your gem identification process? Then the polariscope is for you! In our opinion, the polariscope is the best piece of equipment to start with for gem identification. It will help you determine if a gemstone is singly or doubly refractive which is a key piece of data in determining its identity.

Whilst a polariscope will not identify a gemstone (with the exception of quartz), it is ideal to perform very quick key separations for example:

• Glass and many natural gems. eg Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Topaz, Tourmaline, Quartz & many more
• CZ and many natural gems. eg Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Topaz, Tourmaline, Quartz & many more
• Diamond and Synthetic Moissanite
• Tanzanite and Sapphire
• Ruby and Garnet
• Topaz and Aquamarine
